Dramaten invites you to a scintillating international celebration of theatre and the best in contemporary performing arts. Eleven intensive days of guest productions from all over the world, our in-house premiers, concerts, film screenings and discussions make the festival a meeting place across national borders. The Bergman Festival is a biennial that takes place in late August – early September.
The Festival was founded in 2009 by Dramaten, the Royal Dramatic Theatre. Rather than build a monument or cast a bronze statue of Ingmar Bergman, the initiators chose to create a living, recurring event that would be a welcome addition to the contemporary national and international dramatic arts scene. The Festival was a success from day one and has continued to attract exciting international guest performances, large audiences from many countries, and media coverage.
